“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.” - Isaiah 43:1
When the Creator of the world calls a person by name and redeems them from a broken, empty life into a new life full of hope, joy, and promise, what is the proper response? Is it to take that gift of salvation He has given and to continue living for self, or is it to embrace God’s call to step out in faith and join Him in His work?
The beautiful thing about God calling us by name is that it is not a one-time occurrence. God calls our name when He first draws us into a relationship with Himself, but it doesn’t end there. He calls us into our purpose, into the good works He prepared for us before we were created, into a heavenly calling with eternal impact and eternal rewards. It is a daily calling of love, a relentless pursuit. Our organization was birthed from these truths.
God has called us to open a ministry to serve the people living in Mityana District, Uganda. The poverty rate in Uganda stands at 41% but in the region where we serve, that percentage is most certainly higher. Lack of education causes significant challenges in employment opportunities, and many are found struggling to provide basic needs for themselves and their families. Most make their livelihoods through subsistence farming or “boda boda” (motorcycle) taxi services. There are many vulnerable children and orphans who long for a safe home and a loving family, who have little hope of receiving a good education due to the cost of school fees. An atmosphere of hopelessness and despair threatens to overtake this area, but we have been sent to bring the light, hope, and love of Jesus Christ to these precious people.
We believe and know that true and lasting transformation only comes through knowing Christ, and that’s why evangelism and discipleship are two of our main areas of work. As we go out into villages, we build relationships with the locals and share the good news of salvation and new life in Jesus Christ. We disciple, mentor, and train believers to live a life surrendered to God and to fulfill the purposes for which they have been created.
As we seek to bring spiritual transformation, we also address the physical needs of those we serve as we minister holistically – seeing the worth, value, and needs of the whole person. Through compassionate outreach, we minister to orphans, vulnerable children, widows, and the elderly by providing food, clothing, blankets, mattresses, etc. We partner with Empower A Child to enroll children for sponsorship to receive an education, medical care, healthy meals, and more. Our team identifies those who are struggling most, and we come alongside them to offer our support and assistance in practical ways. We strive towards the goal of seeing these communities achieve their full potential and become self-sustaining.
Reaching out to those who are overlooked, forgotten, marginalized by society, physically and spiritually poor…this is the heart of our Father God, and we want to be of our Father’s business. God knows the name of the abandoned woman who weeps every night, unable to afford to send her children to school. He sees the boy whose parents have died, and being the oldest of his siblings, raises his brothers and sisters, even though he is just a child himself. God knows the elderly man who sleeps on a dirt floor in a small hut, who has lived a hopeless life not knowing there is a God who loves him and desires to give him joyful, everlasting life. These are the ones we venture out to – to restore hope, to touch hearts, to tell them of a loving, merciful God Who is calling them by name into a life-giving, soul-satisfying, deep relationship with Himself. This is the heart behind our ministry.
God is moving and working in Uganda, and we are expecting Him to do great and mighty things through Called By Name. For the sake of the gospel, for the salvation of souls and the transformation of lives, for the worthy name of our Lord Jesus, we dive into this mission with hearts full of love, fully surrendered, ready to be used for the glory of God.
Do you feel a calling to be part of something greater? As we stand at the crossroads of opportunity and need, we invite you to take action. Join Called By Name as a volunteer and become part of a movement dedicated to making a lasting impact in the lives of those who desperately need help. Together we can create a brighter future, one act of kindness at a time. Whether you are part of a group or an individual seeking to make a difference, your involvement is crucial. As they say in Africa, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Let us unite in service, compassion and love, and together we can change lives for the better. Please pray for our ministry and those we serve, partner with us financially to sustain our outreach efforts, or join us on the ground in Uganda to serve and love the least of these!
